DriftingPurposefully

11 - 27 September 2024

Upper Gallery, London College of Communication

Drifting Purposefully explores the power of wandering through urban spaces without a defined route or destination, relying on our senses and emotions to guide us instead. The focus becomes the journey itself and what we might discover along the way – making space in our minds for unexpected encounters, sensory experiences or simply quiet reflection.

The exhibition is inspired by Guy Debord’s theory of psychogeography, which says that our emotions and behaviour can be affected by our surroundings, including the geographical location we are in.

Drifting Purposefully sees ten graduate artists from the last academic year explore their local areas. Their observations and experiences act as a starting point for the blend of art, architecture, geography, psychology and philosophy.

All in all, Drifting Purposefully encourages us to be led by the emotional effects of the terrain – not in a daze, but consciously reflecting on our own deeply personal experiences.

No need to book, just come along to London College of Communication.
