Our strategy 2022-2032

The world needs creativity

Since our last strategy, the world has changed. To deliver our social purpose and to meet the needs and expectations of our staff and students, we need to change, too.

We believe the world needs creativity. This strategy shows how we will bring creativity to the world.

Three guiding policies

We identified the challenges and opportunities that are most important to UAL and its future. The guiding policies are our response to each of these issues in turn.

  • A 3D-scan of a 3D-printed object, in an off-white colour. The top part of the object has the form of a lemon squeezer, with a ridged appearance, rounded top and pointy bottom. Three arms come out of this and attach to the bottom part of the object, which is long, curved and thins towards the end.

    Guiding policy 1

To give our students the education they need to flourish in a changing world.

  • A silver, metallic, 3D-rendered cube which features some erosion through and around the object. The erosion is similar to the texture of coral.

    Guiding policy 2

To bring a high-quality creative education to more students than ever before.

  • A silver, metallic 3D-rendered sculpture, which is an abstract take on the scales of justice. It features four pink hearts at the top.

    Guiding policy 3

To change the world through our creative endeavour.

Why we need our strategy

We've launched this strategy because, in the past 2 years, the world has changed.

Find out why we need our strategy.

Changing the world through teaching

We will learn from each other, through our international student body and global partnerships. We will work with others, using our research to help solve great challenges like economic inequality, climate change, disinformation, and racial injustice. Our graduates will drive the recovery of the creative economy, too, making it more sustainable and inclusive.

James Purnell President and Vice-Chancellor, UAL

Meet the makers

UAL exists because of our remarkable students. Students from across our Colleges have collaborated with our in-house Brand and Creative Services team to create digital and physical 3D artefacts that respond to the strategy and resonate with its content.
